Community Emergency Response Training drills are necessary for both the community and emergency service. They give the emergency services, whether it is the fire department, police department, office of emergency management or just the community a chance to simulate what could actually happen in a real life disaster.
We have participated in a wide variety of situations: gas explosion, mass shooting, high rise disaster, metro bombing, earthquake and others.
In a real disaster, I know that we cannot count on City emergency services, LAFD, LAPD, etc. to help or save us. It is important to be prepared to save ourselves and survive on our own. Our neighbors may come to us for aid or comfort.
